Light In The Darkness

“God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:3-5 NLT

Five years ago, I was a witch, medium, and ghost hunter.

Halloween was an extra-special night of celebration for me in a variety of ways. I gave out candy to the handful of trick-or-treaters who knocked on my door. I dressed in costume for work to commemorate the day. I carved a pumpkin which glowed from dusk until midnight.  I went to a party.

But it was my private ritual circle which brought true satisfaction that night.

This was when I honored the spirits of my grandparents by inviting them to join me in sacred circle to communicate with me. This was when I pulled out the tarot cards to discern any important changes in the coming year. This was when I spent time with my spirit guides, cast spells, and consulted the pendulum.

What I didn’t know (and the spirits certainly did not tell me) was in ONE MONTH my seemingly content (deceived) world would be turned upside down during what turned out to be a fateful (and my final) paranormal investigation.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23 ESV

JESUS CHRIST set me free from witchcraft, rebellion, demonic deception, oppression, and spiritual blindness. The Lord shined the spotlight of truth on my life so I had to respond. And I have been thanking Him every day since. God is so good!

Today is Halloween.

The question of how each one of us (or our families) plans to spend the evening has been settled (despite the ongoing conversation). Yet, what we need to consider is this. What happens tomorrow?

When the rush to dispel the darkness of October 31st has passed, how many will go on about their business, forgetting the growing interest in the paranormal which is rife in our culture? When the party is over, the candy eaten, the costumes returned or re-purposed — do we go on as if this world is not mired in spiritual darkness?

The subtle influences of spiritualism, ghost hunting, divination, and witchcraft will still remain. Television programs on these )or similar topics) will be available every day throughout the year. People (including Christians) will still be drawn to beliefs and ideas which are contrary to what the Bible teaches. Eastern meditation, yoga, and other esoteric spiritual practices will be introduced or practiced by those claiming Christ.

And still the church falls silent on November 1.

The Bible tells us“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 NLT).

Tomorrow, we must be ready to respond with The LIGHT.
