Pitcher Full

A number of years ago I received some very good advice.  Always make sure your spiritual and emotional pitcher is full.   Pouring ourselves daily into the other things...family, friends, work...without stopping regularly to restore our resources has us running on empty.

In a world with so many responsibilities it can certainly be easy to forget about taking care of your personal needs.  Yet if we neglect this very important step we lose so much.  Jesus would take time to remove himself from the pressures and needs of the crowd to be alone in prayer or spend time quietly with the disciples.  Are we any different?

What activity refills your pitcher?  Prayer, meditation, and studying God's word are obvious choices for the Christian to refill spiritual resevoirs.  So is going to church to spend time with Christian brothers and sisters who can encourage, listening to music.  For me simply being outside, admiring the beauty of God's creation is all I sometimes need to find rest for my soul.

There are plenty of things we can do to take care of ourselves emotionally as well.  Many women will understand the need for a pedicure now and then.  Pursuing a sport or a hobby.  Reading a good book, even if you have to lock yourself in the bathroom to get some privacy for a few minutes.

Savor times of peace and restoration...and create them as often as possible.

Great reminder, Kristine! I think my pitcher is on empty…better go to God and get that refill! (:

I’m so glad you enjoyed the blog. The concept of keeping your spiritual “pitcher” full was introduced to me in 2005 and it seriously changed my life.
