"I played with a Ouija Board. Will God forgive me?"
"Will God forgive me for practicing witchcraft?"
"I taught my daughter how to read tarot cards. How can God forgive me for leading her down that path?"
I asked myself these questions (or ones very similar) for years as a witch, medium, and ghost hunter. I would find myself stalled in moments of fear. Believing that perhaps once I'd started down that occult road there was no turning back.
Ever.
For two years following my re-dedication to Christ, I would be overcome with similar doubts. As a medium, I had five spirit guides who I sought daily for guidance. I communicated with "the dead" for myself and others. As a Christian witch, I had created my own version of the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Mother Spirit). My trinity was a "universal god" who agreed with my spiritual view of the world. As a ghost hunter, I sought paranormal entities and experiences better left alone.
Could I truly be forgiven for any of that?
The answer—Yes!
“I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again. Let us review the situation together, and you can present your case to prove your innocence." Isaiah 43:25-26 (NLT)
"My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous." 1 John 2:1 (NLT)
"So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1 (NLT)
"But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness." 1 John 1:9 (NLT)
The truth is there is no sin greater than another. We all have fallen short of God's standard (Romans 3:23). This is why He provided a way of salvation for us through JESUS. When we yield our lives to Him the old things are over and done. Words of condemnation no longer have meaning for us. In fact, all we are doing is torturing ourselves for no good reason.
Playing into the hands of the enemy who likes to accuse us so we are stymied in our faith walk.
The truth is God will always forgive those who earnestly seek Him. We don't have to do anything but turn away from the "whatever" we've been doing, accepting HIS grace. The Bible (which is God's revealed word to us) PROMISES this to us.
We can trust Him. We can put any fears to rest.
"Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 (NLT)
